     1965 OBITUARY: Amanda Isabel West, daughter of Green Matson and Esther Hoover West, was born April 3, 1872, at Washington, KS. She passed away October 14, 1965, at Fredonia, KS at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 11 days.
     In 1889 she was married to Charles Jacob Garriott, and to this union was born 11 children. One son, Walter, and her husband preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, 6 brothers, 1 sister and 2 half brothers.
     She leaves to mourn her passing three sons; William of Winfield, KS; and Melvin and Leslie of Philomath, OR; and seven daughters: Elsie Van Curen, Winfield; Alice Marvin, Challenge, CA; Mary Gidley, Waldport, OR; Martha Schiecht, Longview, WA; Hazel Wilson, Benedict; Audra Taylor, Eureka; and Geraldine Bennett, Neodesha; one brother, Albert West, Ft Smith, AR; one sister, Mrs Emmett Long, Perry, MO; 30 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
     After their marriage, she and Mr Garriott began farming near Fall River and continued to reside in that vicinity. After Mr Garriott's death in 1934, she moved to Fall River where she lived until recently when she moved to the Fredonia Rest Home.
     She was a member of the United Brethren church and attended the Christian church in Fall River. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and a wonderful neighbor and friend. Her whole life was dedicated to helping others in any way she could. Few can boast of as many direct descendants as Mrs Garriott and she loved them all. Her happiest moments were when here family and friends were with her. She will be sadly missed by young and old alike.
     Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct 16, at 2:00 pm at the Cason Funeral Home. Burial was in the Fredonia cemetery. [probably Fall River Star]
