1926 SUICIDE: Ada's daughter, Virginia, was born out of wedlock around 1915. Ada, shunned by her family and treated terribly by her husband, sent Virginia down the road to her parents or neighbors with a suicide note, took rat poison, and laid down in bed with little James. When they returned she was dead. [Karen Liter] 6
Virginia also had a child out of wedlock. She died a few days later of kidney problems at the age of 19. This boy was adopted by Knox D Sargent [b. 3 Jan 1889; d. 16 Jul 1978] and Florence McDowell [b. 4 Jun 1905; d. 5 Sep 1982] and named Marsh Wayne Sargent.
James was shunned by the family, with the exception of his Aunt Lula, with whom he lived. He purchased a life insurance policy on himself, with Lula as beneficiary, requesting nothing be given to his father if something should happen to him. He died in an automobile wreck in 1955-- at 36 years old. No family would put up a tombstone, so his sweetheart did.
