1940 Jasper Co, IN census: has (all b. IN) Warren Gratner 39, Farm Operator-General Farm; Ruby Gratner 32; George Gratner 9; Norma Gratner 7; and Wayne Gratner 2.
BIOGRAPHY: Ruby was a farm wife for most of her life. She helped in the fields and with the animals and also drove the (school) bus part time. In 1965 she purchased a small restaurant in Rensselaer and ran it until January 1969 when her health got too bad for her to work. She had cooked in another restaurant from 1959 until she purchased her own. She was active in the Eastern Star and helped a lot with Rainbow.
Robert drove a school bus for Barkley Township for 38 years. He also farmed and milked cows for some time and raised hogs and sheep. He worked at Kingsbury Ordance plant during the war and was trustee of Barkley Twp for 4 years. He was active in the Freemasons and Eastern Stars and also Rainbow.
