     1944 OBITUARY: Mrs Otto Schreeg, for many years prominent in the life of Union township where she was so universally admired for her many kindnesses, died suddenly at her home east of Parr Tuesday afternoon. Although her health had not been good for several months she was able to be up and perform her household duties. Her death resulted from a heart stroke which took her life within a few minutes.
     Mrs Schreeg was born in Brownstown, IN on April 29, 1887, the daughter of Emory and Mary Ellen (Jones) Garriott. With the exception of the 1918-28 period when they lived in Chicago, all of Mr and Mrs Schreeg's married life was spent in the Parr area.
     Surviving besides the husband and mother are three children, Lawrence and Otto Schreeg, both of whom are in the Navy and stationed in the Southwest Pacific, and Mrs Emmett Hopkins of Rensselaer. Also surviving are a sister and two brothers, Mrs Ralph Lakin of Parr and Clarence and Ernest Garriott of Valparaiso.
     Mrs Schreeg was a member of the Lutheran Church. The funeral services will be held from the WJ Wright Chapel at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Interment will be at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer.

​     2013 OBITUARY: Ellen Emma (Schreeg) Hopkins, 93, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Jasper County Hospital. She was born in Parr, IN on May 3, 1919, the daughter of Otto Schreeg Sr and Nellie (Garriott) Schreeg. Ellen attended school in Parr and graduated from Fair Oaks High School with the Class of 1938.
     Ellen's marriage was in Parr on November 29, 1938, to Ralph Emmett Hopkins Sr. Ellen and Emmett celebrated over 54 years of marriage before Emmett passed away on March 12, 1993. Ellen was a homemaker who enjoyed being involved in her children's activities. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer; Jasper County Hospital Auxiliary, and a former local 4-H leader.
     Surviving are her loving family, Ralph E (Jana) Hopkins Jr, Mesa, AZ.; son, David E Hopkins, Gulfport, MS; son, Janice M Malchow, Dyer; daughter, Sue E (Patrick) Kanney, Wolcott; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.
     Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett; and three brothers. The family expresses their deepest appreciation to Mary Groom Hannon for her loving care of Ellen.
     Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Monday, January 21, 2013, from 1 to 3 pm. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Monday at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the Jasper County Hospital or the Salvation Army. Online condolences may be made at www.jacksonfuneral.com.

     2014 OBITUARY: Byron J. Schreeg, September 22, 1946 - August 7, 2014. Byron Jay Schreeg, 67, Long Beach, IN, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 6:00 pm in Franciscan Hospice Communities - Michigan City.
     Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am Monday, August 11, 2014 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1010 Moore Road, Long Beach, Indiana with the Rev Keith McClellan and Rev Jeremiah Lynch, officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 pm till 6 pm & Monday from 8:30 am till 9:30 am in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St, Michigan City, IN. The Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm Sunday in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. Full military honors will be held following funeral mass at Notre Dame Catholic Church.
     He was born September 22?, 1946 to the late Otto and Genevieve (Feldhaus) Schreeg. On June 10, 1972 in LaPorte, IN he married Ann Chrobak; Surviving are his mother Genevieve Clark of Rennselaer, Indiana; wife, Ann Schreeg of Long Beach, IN; two sons, Scott (Elizabeth) Schreeg of LaPorte, IN, Jeffrey Byron Schreeg of Trail Creek, IN; Daughter, Dr Laura Schreeg, PhD of Washington, DC; four grandchildren, Isabella Schreeg, Abigail Schreeg, Jackson Schreeg and Vivana Schreeg; two sisters, Sharon Davisson of Rensselaer, IN and JoAnn (Greg) Claussen of Crown Point, IN; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and many cousins; He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Terry Davisson
     Byron was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, served two tour cruises in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War as Second Class Petty Officer-Aviation Ordnance receiving two bronze stars. He was a member of the Westville American Legion Post 21, Westville, IN. He worked for US Steel, Gary Works then retired after 36 years from ArcelorMittal USA (Bethlehem Steel) Burns Harbor, IN Tek & IN Kote in the Human Resource division as a system coordinator. He graduated from Rennselaer High School, and earned his degree from Purdue University North Central in Industrial Management and Computer Technology. Byron loved and enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and landscaping.
