     2008 OBITUARY: Raymond G Koch, age 86, Joplin, passed away at 3:08 pm Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Freeman West Hospital. Raymond was born August 28, 1922 in Mountain Grove, Missouri to the late HB Koch and Edna Garriott Koch and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
He graduated from Lamar High School as class Salutatorian in 1940 and attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City until the beginning of World War II. He joined the Merchant Marine and served in the Pacific area as chief radio officer. He returned to Joplin after the war and owned and operated Koch's Electric Shop from 1946 until his retirement in 1987.
     Raymond was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and served as Elder for many years. He was past president of the Joplin Ostomy Association many years and was a past member of the Joplin Circus Club. He was a life member of the Joplin Historical Society and served as treasurer of the Joplin Museum Complex. In 2001, he was awarded the Rex Plumbum Award for dedication and unbounding energy in support of the Joplin Museum Complex.
     He married Bette A. Fretwell on January 17, 1947 in Joplin. She survives. Additional survivors include several extended family members including Ronald Koch, Diane Dousette, Shirley Hann, and Debby Cushing. Raymond was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Harold Koch.
     Family graveside services will be held at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Services will be Saturday at 12:00 pm at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev John Conley will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to the Joplin Historical Society, in care of Parker Mortuary.
