BIOGRAPHY: I, Harry Garriott, third child of Simeon R Garriott, was born in Indiana. I was two and a half years old when we moved in 1910 to Canada, to what was later known at the Crowfoot District, ten miles east and two and a half miles north of Strathmore.
There are a few memories of our trip to Canada, such as being sick on the train and our staying in the King Edward Hotel in Strathmore. We also stayed two or three days with our neighbors the HG Scheers while my father and uncle were moving and setting up stoves and furniture in our house before we could move in.
My school years, including Grade IX, were spent at the Crowfoot School. My second year of high school was spent at Strathmore. We had very good teachers. They taught all grades necessary, from one to twelve, for a few years. I feel that all students left with a creditable knowledge, either for further education or a vocation.
During the winters of the first four of five years in school, my older brother, Clarence, my sister Eileen, and I all rode to school on Lucy, the horse that Dad had originally brought to Canada in 1909. We would tie the reins around her neck and send her back home, as there was no barn or shelter at school. After school we would walk home unless it was stormy, when Dad would come for in a bob sleigh.
Many games of various kinds were played at school. Also about 1915, a Sports Club was organized and it met every Wednesday evening at the school grounds. A tennis court was built and many of us learned the game of tennis there. Baseball, horseshoes and other games were played these evenings, and they were well attended bu the older folks as well as the younger ones.
Much community pleasure was enjoyed at these meetings, occasional box socials and picnics.
I graduated from a three year course at the Technical School in Calgary in mechanics and engineering. I did a seventeen year stint with the Caterpillar dealership in Calgary, then sixteen or seventeen years in the construction business. For the last eight or ten years, I have been semi-retired, working in the summer months at Heritage Park in Calgary, looking after the steam locomotive and other mechanical equipment there.
In 1937, I married Edith Schererman from Leader, Sask.  We have two children, Carol and Eileen, and three grandchildren all living in Calgary.
