2003 OBITUARY: CAMPBELL, MAVIS BERRYMAN was born Jan 28, 1911, in Forney, TX and died April 26, 2003, in Richardson, TX. Preceded in death by twin sister Mary Berryman Cash and her husband Harvey Cash, grandson Louis Campbell Hilgartner and son-in-law Lee M Hilgartner . Survived by husband of 70 years Herbert M. Campbell of Richardson, daughter, granddaughter, great- grandchildren and nephew, all of Dallas. Mavis grew up and finished high school in Kemp, TX She attended West Texas State Teachers College, now West Texas A&M University, where she met her future husband. She was in her third year of teaching at Goodnight, TX when she married her college sweetheart on February 12, 1933. Afterward she occasionally did substitute teaching and also worked for several years in the offices of an insurance company in Ft Worth. After moving to Richardson in 1967, she served as a school secretary until she retired in 1973. She and her husband were charter members of the Richardson Retired Teachers Association. Throughout her life, she was involved in church and community activities, often taking a leadership role. Mavis was loved and admired for her thoughtful and friendly personality and her spontaneous sense of humor. She was a beautiful person inside and out, always putting others before herself. Funeral services will be 2:00 Tuesday, April 29, at First Baptist Church Richardson, Dr. Brian Harbour officiating. Family will receive friends Monday, April 28, from 6-8 pm at Restland Funeral Home. 2003 OBITUARY: Served as Principal at Skyview Elementary School, Richardson ISD. Retired from RISD in 1978. CAMPBELL, HERBERT MARVIN, was born September 10, 1910, in Groom, TX and died December 15, 2003, in Richardson, TX. He was the oldest child of a Texas Panhandle pioneering family and grew up working on the family wheat farms and ranches. He finished high school in White Deer, TX in 1927 then attended West Texas State Teachers College, now West Texas A&M, from which he received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He later did graduate work at Columbia University in New York and received his Master's Degree in School Administration from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, CO.
He was at one time a chemist for McMillan Oil Company, was also Postmaster in Skellytown, TX, and during World War II worked near Amarillo at Pan Tex ordnance plant directing the making of bombs and shells. For 19 years he worked for National Educators Life Insurance Co. and associated companies. But his first love was working with children, and he will primarily be remembered as an educator. For many years he was an administrator in the Richardson Independent School District and was the first principal at Skyview Elementary, from which he retired in 1978.
He was a charter member of the Richardson Retired Teachers Association. After retirement he moved to Kemp, TX where he enjoyed gardening and fishing and served on the Kaufman Co Child Welfare Board. He later moved back to Dallas and has lived for the past few years at The Gardens of Richardson. Mr Campbell was a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Master of Carson Lodge No 1167 at Panhandle, TX and a member of the Grand Lodge of Texas. Always active in the Baptist church wherever he lived, he was a deacon for over 50 years. Mr Campbell's kind, gentle manner and his exemplary character were a source of strength to his family, friends and business associates. He exuded a positive influence on all with whom he came into contact because he had genuine love and affection for his fellow man.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Mavis Berryman Campbell, by a brother and three sisters, by grandson Louis Campbell Hilgartner and son-in-law Lee Hilgartner . He is survived by his daughter, granddaughter and her husband, and by great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by two sisters Juanita Skelton of Ft Collins, CO and Johnnie Vogt of Amarillo, TX and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will also be greatly missed by a vast number of former students and their parents, and especially by the teachers who worked under his supervision and have been like extended family to him. Family will receive friends Thursday, December 18, from 6-8 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, December 19 at 12:00 noon, at Restland Memorial Chapel, Dr Brian Harbour officiating. 2011 OBITUARY: Johnnie D. Campbell Perry Vogt, 90, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Aug 23, 2011. Services will be at 11 am Saturday, Aug 27, at First Christian Church with Regi Fowler officiating. Private burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military rites will be by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Johnnie was born on April 21, 1921, in White Deer to Fred and Tuny Campbell. She attended school at West Texas State Teachers College, now known as West Texas A&M University. After teaching in El Paso, she enlisted and served in the Army from 1943 to 1945. While stationed in Illinois, she was one of a group of eight trained as physical therapy aides for the Army, after which she assisted in an Army general hospital working with World War II wounded.
While living in Denver in 1946, she taught a basic course in finance at Lowry Air Force Base. When that assignment ended, she moved to San Bernardino, CA, to teach school. She returned to Amarillo where she ran a nursery school out of her home. She then became the director of the nursery and nursery school at Northwest Texas Hospital.
Her teaching career in Amarillo began in 1956 as a special education teacher. Subsequently, she taught English at Dalhart Junior High School. She returned to Amarillo and taught special education at Bowie Junior High School and then at Caprock High School where she taught life skills and preparation for entering the work force in special education classes. She retired in 1981 and was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism, and world understanding.
She was active in her church, First Christian Church of Amarillo, teaching Sunday school to both adult singles and couples for over 20 years. She also sang with the Senior Happy Timers and was part of the bell choir.
She married Leo Vogt in November 1985. While living in Pagosa Springs, Colo., the Vogts helps start an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity helping to build six houses there.
She is preceded in death by brothers, Melvin and Herbert Campbell, and sisters, Juanita Campbell Skelton, Mary Beth Campbell Gordon, Burnell Campbell Judkins and Helen Campbell.
She is survived by four daughters and their spouses/partners: Trudi Terry and Irene Dickerman of Ashburn, VA, Patti Marcoe and David Gyles of Fort Collins, CO, Sandy and Steve Williams of Amarillo and Linda and Reggie Black of Fort Collins, CO; five granddaughters, Randi Mack and husband Kevin of Annandale, VA, Sandi Terry of Orange, VA, Jennifer Ehrhart of Amarillo, Erin Kujawa Black and husband Alan of Loveland, Colorado, and Sarah Williams of Amarillo; six great grandchildren, Riley and Campbell Kujawa Black of Loveland, CO, Tucker and Sydney Mack of Annandale, and Lauren and Megan Ehrhart of Amarillo; a nephew, Joe Frank Skelton and wife Deanna of Bellvue, CO; nieces, Nancy Judkins and Peggy Gallagher, both of Fort Collins, Anita Wyrick and husband Bill of Smithville, VA., and Mary Ann Benning and husband Carl of Dallas.

2012 OBITUARY: Nancy Kay Judkins 65 of Fort Collins, CO died February 2012. Memorial services were held at 3 pm Wednesday in Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins.,
Nancy Kay Judkins was born to Burnell and Roy Judkins in Amarillo, Texas. Although she was stricken with polio at age 8 she enjoyed a full productive life. After graduating from North Texas State University with a bachelor's degree in medical technology she worked at Baylor Hospital in Dallas and various other hospitals and clinics.
Nancy's passion for the arts was reflected in her participation in many theatrical productions and in her extensive collection of show tunes. Nancy was an avid reader, loved animals and enjoyed foreign travel. In her later years she developed a keen interest in genealogy and became the family historian.
Survivors include a sister Peggy Elizabeth Gallagher; and seven cousins: Mary Ann Benning, Anita Wyrick, Joe Skelton, Trudi Terry, Patti Marcoe, Sandy Williams, Linda Black and their families.

2016 OBITUARY: BENNING, Mary Ann Campbell Hilgartner. Mary Ann Campbell Hilgartner Benning died 4/18/2016, in Dallas. Born in Pampa, Texas on 5/14/1935, to Herbert Campbell and the former Mavis Ann Berryman. Mary graduated from RL Paschal High School in Fort Worth in 1952 and from Baylor University in 1956. Mary met her first husband of 46 years, Lee Mitchell Hilgartner, in 1955 on a blind date arranged by the couple's aunts and uncles. Following their wedding at St Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, Mary and Lee moved to France where Lee was stationed in the Air Force. They returned to South Texas in 1959, where Lee ran the family ranch and Mary taught elementary school in nearby Yorktown and Victoria.
They had two children, Louis in 1962 and LeeAnn in 1966, before moving to Dallas in 1972. A lifelong educator, Mary taught 4th grade in the Richardson ISD, and later served as a middle school counselor until her retirement in 2007. She was an active member of the Church of the Incarnation, where many examples of her embroidery handwork remain. Mary loved puzzles and games, and, most especially, music; she was a longtime subscriber to the Dallas Symphony, Dallas Opera, and the Texas Ballet Theatre.
In 2008, she married Carl Joshua Benning, Jr. Together, they enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, and, above all, seeing their grandchildren grow and thrive.
Preceded in death by her parents Mavis and Herbert Campbell, and by husband Lee and son Louis Campbell Hilgartner. Survived by husband Carl Benning; daughter LeeAnn Facque-Le Goff; first cousin Harvey Berryman Cash and wife JoBeth; Jim Benning and wife Karen; their daughters Jessica, Caroline, and Alexandra Benning along with their respective fiances; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from the Berryman/Cash, Campbell, and Hilgartner families; and a host of friends, both longtime and recent, with whom she shared the blessings of life and love.
The family wishes to thank Mary's oncologist, Dr. Kristi McIntyre, and the wonderfully kind and professional staffs at Texas Oncology, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, and Seasons Hospice Palliative Care. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21 at 2:30 pm, Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary's name to the or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
