     STELLA'S BIOGRAPHY:
When Stella married a widower with a child, her parents turned their backs on her. When her husband died less than six years later, she was left with three small children, but still her family did nothing to help. Her death two years later, at the age of 28, left her three minor children orphaned. The oldest, John William Adcock, age 9, was raised by his mother, Stella's family. Georgia Adcock was raised by her "Aunt Minnie" (Coombs). Lawson Adcock, age 6, remembered standing at the courthouse after the funeral, with all the family looking at him, when someone asked, "Who is going to take Lawson?" Rev Carroll Percival Pilow and (Sophia) Alice took guardianship of, and raised, Lawson H Adcock. Near his death, Lawson spoke of the fact that, "An orphan's orphan didn't do so bad for himself." When Lawson came of age (21?) he bought Uncle Bill's half of the family farm (John William Adcock), Stella's parents finally helped him out... probably because the Adcocks did!

     THE FARM:
The farm (of George Warren Adcock) had a lien on it when George passed away (1914). Stella and the children (Bill 6, Lawson H 4, and Georgia 2) moved to Indiana with one of her sisters. When Stella subsequently died some 2-1/2 years later the children were farmed out to relatives. The farm was taken care of by Daniel Boone Garriott, Stella's brother, and he answered to "the Bank."  He paid the lien off with the (sale of the) crops. When Uncle Bill came of age and married Aunt Esther (Deval Adcock), they took possession of the farm.  When Lawson H Adcock came of age, they entered into a "Chinese Agreement." Uncle Bill set the price that he would either sell or buy the farm. Lawson H Adcock bought the land where he was born and where he eventually died.
