     MILITARY:16 Robert M McKnight enrolled on 1 Aug 1862, mustered in on 21 Aug 1862 at Indianapolis, IN. On 31 Aug 1862 he was wounded at Battle of Richmond and taken prisoner at Richmond, KY-- then paroled. There was no evidence of disability while a prisoner of war. Location of wound not stated. He mustered out of service on 30 Jun 1865 [or 20 Jul 1865-- 1925 declaration].

     PENSION:16 Robert M McKnight, 45, on 19 Dec 1890, applied for a re-issue of pension [cert 219.218], that he was unable to secure testimony of either of his late Commissioned Officers, or the whereabouts of any other officers that might provide testimony.
     Robert M McKnight, 46, on 10 Jan 1891, again applied for a re-issue of pension [cert 219.218]. He stated that the doctor that treated him in Canton, IN had died, that the doctor that had first treated him at Afton, IA was also deceased. Since 1867 he was being treated by Dr LS Grover of Creston, IA. He asked them to review their decision.
     Robert M McKnight, 81, on 7 Aug 1925 applied for a pension [claim 329.444]. He was described as 6'-0", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and a farmer, and had resided in Union Co, IA since 24 Oct 1866. He has required personal a for, "8 years, with disabilities of partial paralysis, double vision and blindness, dropsy in the feet, aneurism of the abdominal aorta and dizziness, so not safe on the street without an attendant."
     "RM McKnight, Private, Co. B, 16th Indiana Volunteers was admitted to City GH (General Hospital?) Indianapolis, IN (on) 21 Sep 1862 with shot wound of leg and furloughed 22 Sep 1862. No evidence of return from furlough. No further record of Soldiers treatment found. There are no records of the 16 IN Vols. on file, nor Casualty list of the 16th IN Mounted Infantry at Richmond, KY for August 1862."
     General Affidavit:16 William H Thompson, 48, on 10 Oct 1890, stated that he was well acquainted with Robert M McKnight, "That I first make his acquaintance in the year 1864, at which time he was suffering very much on account of diarrhea and piles, and I noticed he was suffering very much with rheumatism, and the veins of his right leg were swollen..... he has never recovered."
     General Affidavit:16 LS Grover, MD, Late Asst Surgeon, 28th IA Vols, on 24 Dec 1890, stated that he was well acquainted with Robert M McKnight since 1867. "During the fall of said year I was called to see him.  He was at that time exceedingly emaciated and very low from the affects of chronic diarhea and was not expected to recover.  I have often seen him every year since that time but only occasionally gave him medicine as he was not under special treatment. I have in the last year treated him for bowel trouble and piles as he has spells of obstinate constipation and rectum trouble, prolapsus and piles."
     General Affidavit:16 Rachel A Dillow 35, on 29 Dec 1890, a nurse and brother to Robert M McKnight filed a general affidavit in Creston, Union Co, IA in support of her brother's request for increase and re-issue of Invalid Pension [cert. 219.218].
     General Affidavit:16 Henry C Thompson, 55, on 12 Aug 1891, stated that, "We were comrades together in the same company and regiment. That I have made a former statement in this claim, that I now say in addition to that set out in my former affidavit that I had personal knowledge of this claimant's condition from the date of his final discharge in 1865 to 1867 when the claimant moved away from this county, and that he was a constant sufferer of diarrhea and piles during such time and was as much as three fourths incapacitated from the performance of manual labor." (no such previous submission was provided by the National Archives)
     General Affidavit:16 Robert M McKnight, 70, on 17 Aug 1914, stated that, "He was unable to furnish a public or church record of his birth. The family bible was taken to Arkansas by his brother Jacob McKnight and his wife about 30 years ago. His brother and wife died several years ago and he has no knowledge of their children or the bible."
