BIOGRAPHY: James Asbury Garriott had a store in Harristown which was rebuild in 1914 after a fire. His son "Jake" or "Jay" continued doing business there.7 James was born in a log cabin near Harristown. He was a farmer and his home was used for church service.39 One source claims that Sarah's maiden name was Argebright.

1971 OBITUARY: Louise Garriott, 69 year old resident of 2402 H Street, Bedford, Lawrence County, IN, died at 9:30 am Wednesday, July 21, 1971 at the Eugene B Crowe Community Hospital. Mrs Garriott, who had been ill the past month, was born April 22, 1902, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Ray and Bertha Neal Dillman. She married Jay A Garriott in 1935 and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs Jack (Delores) Turner of Bedford; two sisters, Mrs John DePierre of Bedford and Mrs Arlie Propes of Lakeland, FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A son, James Young, preceded her in death in 1967. Mrs Garriott was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bedford. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 24th at 10 am at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Rev Arthur Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6:30 pm today at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

1971 OBITUARY: Jay A Garriott, 83, a Bedford general contractor for over half a century, died at 10:30 pm Sunday at the Eugene B Crowe Community Hospital after an illness of two months.
Mr Garriott, who retired about five years ago, was the contractor for many of Bedford's business and professional buildings, among them the Bedford Daily Times-Mail, JC Penney, Kresge's, Dunn Hospital, Edgewood Clinic, Lincoln Elementary School, Grace Methodist Church and the Springville Elementary School, which was his last project. He was associated early in his career with the late Julius Heitger and conducted his general contracting business in Bedford for 51 years.
A resident of 2402 H Street, Mr Garriott was born in Salem, Indiana December 6, 1887, to James and Sally Long Garriott. He was married to Louise Dillman in 1937 at Bedford. She preceded him in death July 21, 1971. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs Jack (Delores) Turner of Bedford; one sister, Mrs Margaret Fultz of Salem and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mr Garriott will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with the Rev Arthur Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
