1968 CALL TO DUTY: Dr Urschel called for Army service.
Dr Dan L Urschel, Mentone doctor for the past six years, Saturday received his official notice to report for active duty as First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the US Army. He leaves Chicago July 30 and is to report to Hoffman General Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA (The telegraphic notice of his commission appointment inferred that he was to report at Santa Barbara July 30, and as a consequence he had made his plans accordingly. Later notification, however, allows him a couple more days time.)
On June 30 Dr Urschel sent in his enlistment papers-- just about two week previous to his call to duty. Dr Urschel will not be in his office here after Saturday, July 24, but Mrs Urschel and Miss Mentzer will remain there for about three weeks for the accommodations of patients who have or are now undergoing treatments of one sort or another.
1993 OBITUARY: Velma L Williams, 80, Indianapolis, died Monday at the Marquette Manor Health Center. A native of Muncie, she was a graduate of Central High School, Ball State University and the University of Michigan. Miss Williams worked as a registered nurse with the Bureau of Public Health for 26 years. She was a member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, and a former corresponding secretary for the White Cross Guild.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Urschel, Minneapolis, MN, and Frances Demepell, Lusby, MD.
Services will be at 11 am Thursday in Meridian Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Calling will be 4 to 8 pm Wednesday at Leppert & Hurt Mortuary, Indianapolis. Memorials may be made to Meridian Street United Methodist Church.

2001 OBITUARY: Ruth A. Urschel March 2, 1910 – Dec. 2, 2001
Former Mentone resident Ruth A URSCHEL, 91, died Sunday at Walker Methodist Home, Minneapolis, MN.
Born in Delaware County to Perry and Emma GILBERT WILLIAMS, she married Dr
Dan URSCHEL. He preceded in death. Mrs Urschel moved from Mentone to Minnesota in the 1970s. She retired as a medical manager. She was active in the Mentone United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sarah BECKLUND and husband Roger, Minneapolis,
MN; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Fran DAMERELL. Preceding in death with her husband were one son, Dr Charles URSCHEL, and one sister, Velma WILLIAMS.
Graveside services will be at 11 am Saturday at Mentone Cemetery. There will be no
visitation. Memorials may be made to Mentone United Methodist Church. King Memorial Home, Mentone, is in charge of arrangements.

2013 OBITUARY: Frances Jeanne Damerell “Fran”, 88, of Solomons, MD, formerly of Elma, NY passed away on March 13, 2013 in Solomons, MD. She was born in Muncie, IN on July 9, 1924 to the late Perry Williams and Emma Gilbert Williams. She was the beloved wife to Marshall Damerell for 67 years whom she married on February 24, 1946 in Muncie, IN.
Fran graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1942 and Purdue University in 1945, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was the office manager of her husband’s business, Eastern Shaft Manufacturing Company, Lancaster, NY until her retirement after fifteen years of service in 1989.
Fran is survived by her husband, Marshall H Damerell; children, Susan Giesy of Saskatoon, SK, Canada, Kay Hawk of Reading, PA, Paul Damerell of Fairfax, VA, and Ralph Damerell of Rochester, NY; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ruth Urschel and Velma Williams.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013, 2:00 pm at Solomons United Methodist Church, 14454 Solomons Island Road South, Solomons, MD with Rev Meredith Wilkins-Arnold and Rev Meredith Syler officiating. Interment will be private.
