     1855 MOVE TO MISSOURI: Newt and John moved to Iowa in 1853, and in 1855, moved again to Missouri. Ambrose bought land in Putnam County, MO in 1857, which he sold in 1871, shortly after the twins, Ambrose Harvey and David A Garriott were born. Ambrose Newton Garriott died from "the effects of the Civil War" in 1875. He was 27 [?] when he entered the service in 1862.

     1857 LAND PURCHASE: [Putnam Co, MO Deed Bk, dated 14 Sep 1857] Ambrose N Garriott purchased 40 acres from Peter Moore [NW4 NW4 S32 T67 R21] for $100.
     1860 LAND PURCHASE: [Putnam Co, MO Deed Bk, dated 9 Mar 1860] Ambrose N Garriott purchased 80 acres from his brother John W Garriott [N2 SE4 S34 T67 R21] for $100.
     1866 LAND SOLD: [Putnam Co, MO Deed Bk, dated 26 Jan 1866] Ambrose N and Sarah F Garriott of Grundy Co, MO, sold to cousin John William and John Garriott of Mercer Co, MO 20 acres [W2 NW4 S32 T67 R21] for $80.
     1871 LAND SOLD: [Putnam Co, MO Deed Bk, dated 5 Jun 1871] Ambrose N and Sarah F Garriott of Putnam Co, MO sold to George Callison two parcels:  20 acres [E2 NW4 S32 T67 R21], and 80 acres [N2 SE4 D34 T67 R21] for $1,700.
     1872 LAND PURCHASE: [Wilson Co, KS, Fd pg 562] Ambrose N Garrott of Montgomery Co, KS, purchased from JH Rainwater for $675 [SE4 S17 T30S R15], sold below.
     1875 LAND SOLD: [Wilson Co, KS, Gd pg 452] Ambrose A? Garriott and Sarah F Garriott, his wife, sold to Margaret A Cooley for $625 [SE4 S17 T30S R15E].

     MILITARY: Ambrose Newton enlisted in Company E, 34th Infantry Regiment, Iowa Volunteers on 15 Aug 1862, Coydon, IA, for three years. He was described in Regimental Descriptive Book (probably 1863) as 27 years old, 5'-5-3/4" tall, Dark complexion, Grey eyes, Dark hair, born Washington Co, IN, a Farmer. On several of the muster rolls of the company it stated him to be a Nurse. He died "From lung disease and constipation contracted in the said service," leaving five minor children. Adjutant General's office reported Ambrose Newton was, "On muster roll of said Co to 31 Oct 62 [to] present. Nov and Dec 62, about sick in Hospt'l at Helena, Ark since 21 Dec 62." He was also in the hospital at Bent Bar [Jefferson Barracks?], St. Louis, MO. He mustered out with company 15 Aug 1865 in Houston, TX as a private.

     PENSION: Ambrose Newton filed for a pension [certificate 299.323]. The information provided by the National Archives did not include a copy of the actual document filed for a pension. Reference to this application was referred to by other affidavits provided below.

     WIDOW'S PENSION: Sara filed for a pension [certificate 349.816] for the minor children from Walla Walla Co, Washington Territory. None of the pension documents from the National Archives indicates that any pension was ever provided for Ambrose, his remarried widow, or for his children, although Sarah's request for increase of pension and a certificate number would suggest a pension was provided.
     1882 DEPENDENT CHILD PENSION: Sarah F Garriott, 37, a resident of McCoy, Polk Co, OR, applied for a pension for her dependent children on 6 Jul 1882. She claimed five children to be under the age of 16.
     1882 DEPENDENT CHILD PENSION: Mary E Bowman (formerly Mary E Garriott), age 22, a resident of McCoy, Waitsburg, Walla Walla County, Territory of WA, on 6 Jul 1882, applied for a pension. She claimed to be a legitimate child of Ambrose N Garriott who enlisted at Corydon, IA, and, "Died from the effects of lung disease and constipation, which he contracted in said service."

     1888 WIDOWS APPLICATION FOR INCREASE OF PENSION: Sarah F Tyler, 43, of Walla Walla Co, WA Territory, on 26 Nov 1888, requested an increase of pension for her dependent children, referring to the children's father's application [299.323] and the previous minor children's application [349.816]

     1896 GENERAL AFFIDAVIT: Sarah F Tyler, 52, a resident of Dayton, Columbia Co, WA, on 25 Mar 1896, stated that she could not provide the information requested because Miss Elizabeth McAustin??, who had a stroke that affected her mind, could not provide that information. She, again, stated the names and birth dates of her minor children.
     1896 GENERAL AFFIDAVIT: Mary E Bowman, age 36, a resident of Covello, Columbia Co, WA, on 30 Jun 1896, certified that she was the daughter of Ambrose N Garriott and his widow who now has a pension claim.
     1896 GENERAL AFFIDAVIT: Ambrose H Garriott, 25, a resident of Dayton, Columbia Co, WA, on 30 Jun 1896, certified that he was the twin son of Ambrose N Garriott and son of his widow who has a pension claim pending.
     1897 GENERAL AFFIDAVIT: Sarah F Tyler, 52, a resident of Dayton, Columbia Co, WA, stated on 19 Jul 1897 that, "The death of her husband was 19 May 1876." This date is different from that stated above. "Any other statement is not correct."
     1898 GENERAL AFFIDAVIT: Carl Jones, 56, a resident of Medford, Jackson Co, OR, filed an affidavit on 22 Feb 1898 stating he was a brother of Sarah and was acquainted with Ambrose N Garriott and was present when they were married in Mercer Co, MO. Sarah and Ambrose lived together until his death in KS
     1899 GENERAL AFFIDAVIT: Sarah F Tyler, 56, a resident of Dayton, Columbia Co, WA, filed an affidavit dated 4 Oct 1899 & on 25 Nov 1899 providing proof from the family bible of the birth of her children.
