Ora and her parents moved to Washington County when Ora was young. Felix, Ora's father, was District Sup. in the United Brethren Church Conference. She later attended Borden Teacher's College, a two year college. She lived with several other girls and took turns cooking. Some of the subjects taken were Latin, Botany, and Geometry. Botany is mentioned often in her diary and must have been one of her favorite subjects. Some of the books read were Madame Roland, Hypatia, Moral Antipathy, and The End of the World.
After graduation Ora taught in Public School near Little York for two years.
1955 OBITUARY: Mrs SL Garriott Dies at Tampico-Rites Held Saturday. Funeral rites were held Saturday afternoon from the Tampico Baptist Church for Mrs Ora May Garriott, wife of Samuel L Garriott, who died late Wednesday night at her home in Tampico after an illness of only four hours. The Rev John Wheary, pastor of the Crothersville and Russell's Chapel Methodist Churches, was in charge of the rites and burial was in the Russell's Chapel Cemetery.
Born in Franklin county, Indiana, March 27, 1877, Mrs Garriott was the daughter of the late Felix and Mary Halsted DeMunbrun. She and Mr Garriott were married December 4, 1897, in Washington County and since that time she had lived in the Tampico community.
She was a member of the Russell's Chapel Methodist Church and was widely known throughout the entire community.
Surviving in addition to the husband are eight children. They are Mrs Pearl Collins, of Salem; Mrs Elmer Robbins, of Tampico; Gerald Garriott, of Leesburg Florida; Mrs Eva Jenkins, of Indianapolis; Marion Garriott, of Tampico; Ronald Garriott, of Crothersville.
Also surviving are three brothers, Charles DeMunbrun, of California, Ferdinand DeMunbrun, of Norman and Frank DeMunbrun, of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Miss Gertrude DeMunbrun, of Crothersville and Mattie, Nineteen grandchildren and eleven great -children.

1959 WILL: [Jackson Co, IN, Will Book 6/588 #3527, dated 6 May 1959] Samuel Leonidas Garriott mentions sons and daughters: Pearl Collins of Crothersville, Mabel Collins of Salem, Bertha Robbins of Brownstown, Gerald Garriott of Leesburg, FL, Evangeline Jenkins of Indianapolis, Marion Garriott of Brownstown, Ronald Garriott of New Albany, and Robert Garriott of Connersville. Elmer Robbins was the executor.
